Summer Program
Our Summer Program offers students a dynamic and enriching experience that blends fun, academics, and skill-building. Each week is dedicated to a specific area of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), providing students with targeted instruction designed to support their individual learning and independence. Through engaging lessons and hands-on activities, students strengthen essential life and academic skills in a supportive environment. The program is offered in two sessions, three weeks in June and three weeks in July. Students may apply to attend any number of days that best fit their schedule and goals.
The SDSBVI Summer Program is open to all South Dakota students ages 3 to 21 who are blind, visually impaired, or have multiple disabilities that include visual impairment. Eligibility for Extended School Year (ESY) services is not required for participation. Students with a 504 Plan or vision-related accommodations are also encouraged to apply.
We recognize that students thrive in a supportive and well-rounded environment. For those students who live at a distance or wish to focus on developing independent living skills, we offer a fully supervised residential program. This program provides a safe, comfortable, and structured home away from home, and is designed to support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth throughout their summer experience.
